Interactive Achievement Award Winners Announced

In addition to Interactive Title of the Year, Zelda: Ocarina of Time was
honored as Adventure Game of the Year, Role Playing Game of the
Year, Console Game of Year and for Outstanding Achievement in
Interactive Design, and Outstanding Achievement in Software
Engineering. Half-Life was recognized as Action Game of the Year and
Computer Game of the Year. Banjo-Kazooie was honored as Action
Game of the Year and for Outstanding Achievement in Art/Graphics.
Other winners include A Bug's Life Action Game - Children's
Entertainment Title of the Year; National Geographic Maps - Family
Title of the Year; Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri - Strategy Game of the
Year; and Starsiege Tribes - Online Action/Strategy Game of the Year.
"This year's award recipients, all selected by Academy voting members,
reflect the highest standards of interactive excellence. The award
recipients show without a doubt that our industry offers wonderful
interactive experiences for every audience and taste," said Jim Charne,
president and executive director of the Academy.
Sugar Ray Leonard, Bruno Campos, Kelly Hu, Zachery Ty Bryan, Ben
Stein, David Gallagher, Coolio, Danica McKellar, Nicholle Tom and
Chris Roberts came out to welcome the awards to Hollywood. The 1999
Interactive Achievement Awards were also presented with the support of
Microsoft, Imagine Media, GamesBusiness and Intel.
The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences (AIAS) announced the
recipients of its second annual Interactive Achievement Awards. The
awards were presented at a gala event held May 13 at the Variety Arts
Theater during the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles. Zelda:
Ocarina of Time won six awards including the prestigious Interactive
Title of the Year. Also earning multiple awards were Half-Life and
Banjo-Kazooie , both titles receiving two each.
